After years of studying and building fine musical instruments including guitars,
we were introduced to the hurdy-gurdy. Also know as the Vielle a roue, this ancient
instrument is experiencing a reinaissance across America and Europe.
Its unique sound, like a bagpipe and violin duet, make it a welcome member of the
many historical string instruments experiencing a new popularity.
We currently offer custom built hurdy-gurdies, and parts for those built
from scratch. We are working on plans, kits for the DIY musician, and a DVD
with lessons on maintenance, tuning, and playing technique.
Our hurdy-gurdies are built in several styles. Options include fully
adjustable metal tangents or traditional wood, machine geared tuners or wood,
choice of domestic or exotic woods, body shape, number of strings, buzzing bridge and many others.
We can build your first hurdy-gurdy geared for the beginner or a top of the line instrument
built for the experienced player.
